Grants for Victorians from May ~ June 2021 lockdown

| COVID 19 support packages due to Victorian lockdown restrictions from 28 May 2021
The Victorian and federal government have revealed additional grants for eligible small to medium businesses and individuals affected by the initial seven-day lockdown from 28 May ~ 3 June 2021. The assistance to be provided has been updated several times due to the extension to the lockdown period in metropolitan Melbourne and the following is our summarised information as of 10 June 2021.
Business Costs Assistance Program
Eligible businesses in Victoria could receive a cash grant as follows (including sole traders and non employing businesses) if it was in an industry that could not operate under the state’s lockdown conditions.

$2,500: businesses subject to restrictions between 28 May 2021 and 3 June 2021

$5,000: businesses subject to restrictions between 28 May 2021 and 10 June 2021
-
$7,000: businesses subject to further extended restrictions as announced on Wednesday 9 June 2021
Affected businesses such as restaurants and cafes, event suppliers, accommodation providers and non-essential retailers should be able to apply for the grant if ALL of the following conditions are met:

have a trading address within Victoria
-
be registered in an eligible industry sector identified in the list of Eligible ANZSIC classes (as defined by the industry classification linked to the business’ ABN)

have incurred costs as a direct result of the lockdown and cannot fully operate remotely
-
have an annual Victorian payroll of less than $10 million during 2019-20
-
have an ABN and are registered for GST at 27 May 2021
It is also stated that, “The applicant must attest that the business is supporting its workers to access any paid leave entitlements, or that if a person can work from home, to work from home during the circuit breaker action, and supporting their casual workers, where possible.”
Businesses eligible for the Licensed Hospitality Venue Fund are not eligible for this grant.
Applications are open now until 11:59 pm on 24 June 2021.
Licensed Hospitality Venue Fund
Businesses holding an eligible liquor licence will be automatically contacted from Business Victoria to receive the following payments.

a $3,500 grant with premises in regional Victoria
-
a $7,000 grant with premises in metropolitan Melbourne
Businesses that are eligible for this grant will not be able to receive the Business Costs Assistance Program.
Applications can only be submitted online through the form link sent by Business Victoria to the liquor licensee’s eLicence email address and close on 11:59 pm on 24 June 2021. Details of this grant can be found here.
Temporary COVID disaster payments (for individuals)
The Prime Minister also announced that the federal government is providing a temporary COVID disaster payment as follows, for eligible Victorian individuals who were unable to earn an income during the lockdown restrictions.

$500 per week for workers ordinarily working 20 or more hours a week

$325 per week for workers ordinarily working less than 20 hours a week.
In order to be eligible for the payment,
-
the person has to reside or work in a COVID-19 national hotspot and the lockdown was more than 7 days
-
must be unable to attend work due to the COVID restrictions & have exhausted all other available leave entitlements (exclude annual leave entitlements)
-
must be older than 17
-
be an Australian citizen, hold a permanent resident or a visa holder who are permitted to work in Australia
-
cannot be receiving another form of income or pandemic support
-
must have liquid assets of less than $10,000.
Regional Victorians are excluded from this payment as their lockdown was not more than 7 days.
This payment can be claimed using an individual’s Centrelink online account through myGov from Tuesday 8 June 2021. Further details can be found here.
